BECOMING AMERICANA

Interestingly enough, BECOMING AMERICANA will be released on November 7^th which is . . . (drum roll) . . .election day!  Isn't that great!!

There isn't a privilege that is more American than the right to vote.   We're extremely lucky in this country to have that right.  I'm not a very political person, but I do appreciate being able to participate in the democratic process as an American.  I hope you do too.  In fact, I found a fun site for you to visit and brush up on how voting works.  It allows you to travel in a voting time machine to see what your voting rights were at different points in history, and lots of other fun things.  Great for those of you who have teens or those of you who are teens!  Check it out at: pbskids.org/democracy/vote/index.html

So, I want to encourage you all to go out on November 7^th and vote for the candidates and issues that are important to you.

Then immediately reward yourselves for being such great Americans with a trip to the bookstore to buy BECOMING AMERICANA! 

On a different topic, I hope some of you have had the chance to visit http://TheVibeKids.com.  Lupe's Diary is being updated weekly and will be until the launch of BECOMING AMERICANA. Great to read if you've been wondering what happened to the characters after the close of BECOMING LATINA.  Did George and Marcela get married?  Did Lupe actually stay out of trouble?  Read Lupe's Diary to find out those and other questions.  I feel like a soap opera commercial . . . (Insert dramatic music here).

In the past year, I've had the opportunity to meet and work with so many of you, and you have been instrumental in making BECOMING LATINA a success, so first of all -- Thank You!  You're wonderful!! 

I decided to add this section to my newsletter to let you know of news that may interest you.

Reminder! Inland Empire Magazine's November issue (out in October) will have an article featuring both "Becoming" books.

This weekend I had an awesome time chatting with the producer of Hispanic Lifestyle, Richard Sandoval, at a fun event at the Ontario Mills Mall. There were lots of great performers and I'm sure I was the least interesting of all his guests. Luckily, he makes everyone look good -- thank goodness. That live event will appear on one of the upcoming programs of Hispanic Lifestyle.  The show is on Saturdays at 7:30pm, channel 24 in the Inland Empire.  Once I hear of the exact air date, I will let you know.
